Teaching Your Hands to See!

About the event

Drawing objects “in 3D” or with the illusion of reality, only really requires you to stop thinking and start really seeing. Artists who draw what they see, are also known as representational artists because when they draw what they see, they are drawing a ‘representation’ of what is really there, or directly in front of them. Have you ever tried to draw let’s say, an apple for instance. What colour was it? Did it have a stem? Did you see a shine, or a shadow? Were you overwhelmed by it’s lack of being perfectly spherical? Do NOT fret! I’m here to help.

You know there’s the left and right hemispheres of our brains. One of them is a know-it-all and the other wants to learn and express itself. While we do need both sides equally, there comes a time when you are creating where you must learn to choose one over the other. (I will show you what happens when you don’t! Or rather, you will😉) Drawing is the foundation to ALL forms of art. ALL of them. No jokes. Y’know how it is said about you should learn to walk before you run? Same goes for drawing. Learn to draw, before you paint, design a theatre set, a video game, jewelry, pottery, sculpture, building blueprints, a housing district, interior design, costumes – ANYTHING.

During the class, you will learn to actually draw ‘what you see’ in place of ‘what you know’ using simple shapes like blocks, cones, spheres and cylindars. I will introduce you to a an arsenal of tips like blind contour, value-finding, body posture, proper lighting, best distance between you and the objects and how to study objects objectively and carefully.  To find ‘your medium’, you will also get to try out different art materials while drawing, shading and highlighting.

No, no experience is necessary—and actually the less experience you come with, the better. Trust me, drawing isn’t scary. It’s fun, relaxing and can take you anywhere. 😊

This course is fun and free for all those who attend, all supplies are provided and are meant to assist those in either rediscovering their inner artist, naturally occurring creativity or to just increase the level of fun and whimsy that can be a part of your every living moment. You will get to draw, paint and build things in each class, so come prepared to embrace PLAY through art and art education.
