UPCYLING to Save the Planet!

For Okotoks' Nooks & Crannies event in 2021, I decide to create a walk-in cardboard castle to showcase what I believe to be the four pillars of the arts: Innovation, Expression, Functionality and the Literary Arts. The castle was built using found and recyclable cardboard, 3D filament spools, corrugated plastic realty signs, canvas pieces, leftover bits of fabric, styrofoam packing materials, keyboard membranes, children's art and props created to represent the four pillars.
I hosted two art camps for kids to assist in painting parts and creating artwork to be placed inside it.

The castle consisted of six interlocking parts: the keep, the four corners, and the doorway arch. Upon having to move it from it's first location, I was able to create a wishing well inside it. It was on public display from July 22 to August 26. As weather and walking guests visited it, I had to keep checking in on it to ensure it's structural integrity as well as its safety.
Eventually, I had to let go of most of the larger pieces but some remained useful for pop up youth markets and other fun events up until early October. It took four full months and hundreds of hours to build and I loved every minute of it.
