After studying Japanese mythology of these legendary characters, and their properties, I chose to use two separate panels of suede mat to best suit one of my favourite mediums: ultra soft pastels. The Dragon shows the masculine properties of action, hot colours and day time and the Phoenix shows the feminine properties of introspection, cool colours and evening.

The colours will never fade, and the suede mat is made from archival material. Therefore, when handling soft pastel drawings, remember that pastels are a natural and delicate material, and can settle along edges if the piece is jarred heavily.
