Dinosaur Discovery Art Camp! (ages 7-10)

In this super fun week of art camp, kids ages 7 - 10 will enjoy learning how to paint, sculpt, create jewelry, draw, design and so much more all in the name of paleontology! Each day leads into the next as does each project and on their last day, in their last hour - they put on a mini art exhibit!

About the event

Calling all fans of those mighty and amazing beasts of millions of years ago! LET us all UNITE and make some mighty and amazing art with our collective passions for paleontology!

Robin Thibodeau, your mastermind behind ISAFA-- is indeed a self proclaimed dino geek of Okotoks. She has taken a number of courses on these ancient beast and to keep up on new information she has read a number of books and literal encylclopedias on them. She also visits the Royal Tyrrell Museum regularly. So put plainly, your artist/dino geek will be in good hands:) Young artists will study the three main epochs (Triassic, Jurassic and Cretaceous) along with their favourite creatures of the far distant past through drawing scientific diagrams, the fibre arts, cardboard and/or clay sculpture, watercolour landscapes of Pangea, acrylic paintings of their top most favourite beast along with a plethora of mixed media projects. SIDE NOTE:  Even though art aprons are provided--- ART can still be messy so nice clothes won't be nice for long. Consider having them choose a wardrobe for the week;)

Housekeeping Guidelines:

Students enter the Studio through the back gate and through the back door. The Studio is located inside Miss Robin's converted basement. Shoes reside on the footwear rack and nowhere else. Students are welcome to bring and leave indoor shoes for the week as the carpeted floor can still feel chilly:)

  1. Start time: 10:00 am (students are welcome to come 10 minutes early to settle in each day)
  2. Snack breaks: 11:15 and 1:15 (please avoid peanuts;)
  3. Lunch time: 12:00 - 12:30 (please pre-pack lunches so that we can all dine at the same time) Lunches are eaten outside when the weather permits it, so hats, sunglasses, sunscreen and water bottles are kindly requested. If it is raining, we have lunch in my upstairs dining room. We often do some  of our messier and larger projects outside so this is something else to be aware of too.
  4. End time: 3:00 pm
  5. Friday, July 13th: Outdoor Mini Exhibit for Friends & Family at 2:30 - 3:00 -->Please stay for the full half hour. We will have refreshments and snacks for you too!

Something you might not know-- is that The Inspiration Studio Academy of Fine Art only accepts 5 students per camp. So this allows tailor-made projects for your dino art fan:) Head to the registration page to help Miss Robin get to know your prodigy better!
